This blog talks about pirates quite a lot, particularly in light of the distinct paucity of actual pirates actually making beer. In the early years the pirate posts were mainly championing the annual International Talk like a Pirate Day, which surprisingly often coincided with the world famous Oktoberfest. Coincidence? Absolutely.

Hop Selection No.1 4.9%

Written by
We feel privileged to have been offered the opportunity to brew with a hop that Plant and Food in Riwaka have trialled and are very close to making a commercial decision about. We have intentionally brewed a light bodied beer using 50/50 wheat and barley so that the beer will showcase the hop character.  This beer displays an abundance of fruits with tropical, peach and tangerine at the fore.

Red IPA 6%

Written by
Deep red in colour, this limited seasonal release is packed with copious amounts of NZ hops giving bold citrus and tropical notes typical of an IPA. The biscuit, toasted and caramel malt flavours finish the beer off wonderfully.

Rakau Pilsner 5%

Written by
Brewed using a single hop variety called Rakau, this Pilsner delivers stone fruit and pine like characteristics. True to a Pilsner style, this beer has a crisp aftertaste.
While craft beer drinkers tend to have their favourites – beers which never let them down - most are also intensely interested in new beers and new breweries. During this exceptionally busy week Malthouse is hosting multiple beer launches from two new breweries as well as a beer relaunch.
The now annual Malthouse Session Beer Session showcase of mid-strength brews kicks off on Friday 13 October 2017 and is officially scheduled to run until close of play on Sunday 15 October 2017.
